Amritsar (Dwarka Nath Rana): The Amritsar Street Light Workers to Protest will take place on July 1 at Bhandari Bridge. The Municipal Corporation Street Light Workers Union (CITU) announced the rally to demand regular jobs for employees working on DC rates.

Workers Demand Regular Government Jobs
The Municipal Corporation Street Light Workers Union (CITU) announced the Amritsar Street Light Workers to Protest during a press conference.
Union President Tarsem Singh Deol and General Secretary Vasudev said workers have served the Municipal Corporation for 10 to 15 years.
However, they continue to work on DC rates and receive low salaries.
Union Alleges Discrimination
Union leaders claimed previous governments failed to regularise street light workers.
According to the union, the government regularised sewerage department employees but ignored street light workers.
Furthermore, they said workers have repeatedly met Punjab Government representatives. However, those meetings resulted only in assurances.

CITU State Vice-President Comrade Sucha Singh Ajnala said the protest has another objective.
Besides demanding regular jobs, workers will oppose the government’s proposed “Ji Ram Ji Viksit Bharat Scheme,” which is scheduled to take effect on July 1.
He urged the government to reconsider the policy.
Union Warns of Major Demonstration
The union warned that workers would hold a large protest at Bhandari Bridge if the government ignores their demands.
Therefore, union leaders asked the administration to resolve the issue before July 1.

The gathering included Vijay Kumar, Tarsem Tapiyara, Kirpa Ram, Jaspal Sharma, Kulwant Singh, Major Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Surinder, Jaspreet, Vinod and Sukhdev Singh.
Meanwhile, many other workers also expressed support for the planned protest.
