Amritsar (Suraj Kamlesh): The Amritsar Garbage Dumping Drive gained momentum as the Amritsar Municipal Corporation (MCA) launched a special enforcement campaign against commercial establishments dumping garbage at public places. The drive covered Mall Road and Lawrence Road to ensure compliance with the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules and improve city cleanliness.
Moreover, Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill personally supervised the campaign and directed officials to take strict action against violators.
Commissioner Orders Immediate Action
The Amritsar Garbage Dumping Drive began after officials found a major commercial establishment illegally dumping waste on Mall Road during the previous night.
Consequently, Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill instructed the sanitation wing to remove the garbage immediately and initiate legal action against those responsible.
The following morning, he visited the site to monitor the enforcement drive personally.
Senior officials, including Medical Officer of Health Dr. Yogesh Arora, Chief Sanitation Officer Malkiat Singh, Secretary-cum-Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia, Chief Sanitary Inspector Harinderpal Singh, Sanitary Inspectors Amandeep Singh and Sanjeev Arora, along with sanitation staff, participated in the operation.
Municipal Corporation Imposes Heavy Fines
During the Amritsar Garbage Dumping Drive, inspection teams found several businesses violating municipal sanitation rules.
As a result, officials issued challans and imposed penalties on the spot.
The fines included:
- Satyam Enterprises – ₹10,000
- M/s Caret Line Showroom – ₹5,000
- Gurmukh Singh Paint Store – ₹10,000
- Liquor Shop on Lawrence Road – ₹2,000
- Sharma Sweets on Dasondha Singh Road – Challan issued
Furthermore, officials warned that similar inspections would continue across the city.
Commissioner Warns Against Future Violations
Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said the Municipal Corporation cleans city roads three times every day.
However, some commercial establishments continue to dump waste in public places instead of using the designated waste collection system.
He warned that the corporation would not tolerate such violations in the future.
Additionally, authorities will impose penalties under the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules and initiate legal action wherever necessary.
Citizens Asked to Support Cleanliness Campaign
The Commissioner appealed to shopkeepers, business owners, and residents to cooperate with the Municipal Corporation.
He urged everyone to keep separate bins for wet and dry waste and dispose of garbage through the approved collection system.
Likewise, he advised citizens not to dump waste on roads, footpaths, or other public places.
He emphasized that maintaining a clean and garbage-free Amritsar is a shared responsibility and called upon every citizen to contribute to the cleanliness campaign.
