Chandigarh:The Punjab Cyber Crime Crackdown continues to deliver strong results as the State Cyber Crime Division expands its action against online fraud networks. Officials said Punjab Police has taken strict action by freezing 63,749 suspicious bank accounts across the state.
As a result, the crackdown has disrupted several cyber fraud operations running through digital platforms.
₹540 Crore Fraud Network Exposed
According to official data, these accounts handled transactions worth ₹540.34 crore. Meanwhile, Punjab Police actively tracked illegal money flows and identified large-scale fraud patterns.
In addition, authorities helped victims recover nearly ₹64 crore since 2024. Out of this, teams recovered ₹38.42 crore after January 2025.
Overall, cybercrime cases in Punjab reached 62,253 FIRs, showing a sharp rise in digital fraud incidents.
Recovery Rate Shows Clear Improvement
Punjab Police strengthened its financial monitoring system. Consequently, the recovery and freezing rate improved significantly.
The freezing rate increased from 16.13% to 23.43%. This improvement shows faster response and better coordination in the Punjab Cyber Crime Crackdown.
Sextortion Network Busted in Major Operation
In another major breakthrough, Punjab Police exposed a sextortion racket linked to a victim based in Canada.
Initially, accused individuals contacted victims through social media using fake online prayer groups. Later, they trapped victims and forced them to share private videos.
After that, the accused threatened to leak the content unless money was paid.
Police acted quickly and arrested three accused persons. During the operation, they recovered cash, mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and other digital devices.
Cyber Awareness Drives Expanded Across Punjab
To prevent future crimes, Punjab Police launched 129 cyber awareness programs across districts such as Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Mansa, and Muktsar.
Furthermore, officials educated citizens about online grooming, sextortion, cyber bullying, and fake online friendships.
In addition, the Special DGP (Cyber Crime) stated that the state will continue both enforcement and awareness campaigns to strengthen digital safety.
