Amritsar (Simran Santosh Rajput): The Amritsar Encroachment Drive continued across the city as the Municipal Corporation removed illegal occupations at Hathi Gate. Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill and Additional Commissioner Dr. Jai Inder Singh, the Estate Department carried out a special anti-encroachment operation to free public spaces.
The Estate Department conducted the drive under the supervision of Secretary-cum-Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia and Estate Officer Dharminderjit Singh. During the operation, officials removed unauthorized shop counters and illegal occupations extending onto roads and government land outside auto workshops at Hathi Gate.
Roads and Footpaths Cleared
The Amritsar Encroachment Drive successfully cleared roads and footpaths blocked by illegal occupations. As a result, traffic movement became smoother, and pedestrians gained safer access to public walkways.
Officials stated that no individual or commercial establishment would be allowed to occupy government land, roads, or footpaths. Moreover, the department warned that strict action would continue against anyone violating civic regulations.

Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said the corporation remains committed to keeping the city’s roads and footpaths free from illegal occupations. Furthermore, he appealed to shopkeepers and business owners not to extend their counters or goods onto public property.
He also urged traders to cooperate with the Municipal Corporation. According to the Commissioner, public cooperation is essential to maintain smooth traffic and a clean urban environment.

Additional Commissioner Dr. Jai Inder Singh said the Amritsar Encroachment Drive will continue in every part of the city. Therefore, officials will closely monitor areas where illegal occupations reappear.
