Akal Takht Verdict: Aujla Demands Bhagwant Mann’s Resignation

Aujla Demands Bhagwant Mann's Resignation Over Akal Takht

Amritsar (Simran Santosh Rajput): Aujla Demands Bhagwant Mann’s Resignation became the focus of political discussions after Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla supported the June 15 verdict delivered by the five Sikh high priests of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. During a press conference in Amritsar, Aujla urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to resign from his post, appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and seek forgiveness.

Furthermore, Aujla strongly criticized the Maharashtra Government’s reported attempts to amend the Hazur Sahib Act. He claimed that the proposed changes could increase government control over the Takht Sri Hazur Sahib management board and weaken the autonomy of Sikh religious institutions.

Aujla Demands Bhagwant Mann’s Resignation: Aujla Supports Akal Takht Verdict

Aujla said Bhagwant Mann had appeared before Sri Akal Takht Sahib earlier regarding a controversial video that surfaced on January 15, 2026. At that time, Mann reportedly claimed the video had been created using artificial intelligence.

However, Aujla said the Sikh high priests had allowed sufficient time for an independent investigation. According to him, no investigation has conclusively addressed the concerns raised by the Sikh community.

He further alleged that appearing before Sri Akal Takht Sahib and making false claims would itself be a serious religious wrongdoing. Therefore, he urged the Chief Minister to respect the verdict instead of questioning it.

Respect for Akal Takht Is Essential

The Congress MP stated that Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the highest religious authority for Sikhs. Moreover, he said every Sikh has a responsibility to respect its decisions.

Aujla also criticized political leaders who questioned the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib after the verdict. According to him, such actions undermine the dignity of Sikh religious institutions and create unnecessary controversy.

He added that Bhagwant Mann has publicly acknowledged receiving his political position through the blessings of Guru Sahib. Therefore, he argued that the Chief Minister should also accept the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib with the same humility.

Criticism Over Remarks Against Sikh Institutions

Aujla also condemned Aujla Demands Bhagwant Mann’s Resignation the use of disrespectful language against the Sikh high priests by political leaders. At the same time, he said disagreement with a decision should never result in personal attacks or disrespect toward religious institutions.

He emphasized that people may hold different opinions. Nevertheless, they must protect the dignity and sanctity of Panthic institutions.

Opposes Proposed Hazur Sahib Act Changes

A significant part of the press conference focused on the proposed amendments to the Hazur Sahib Act.

Aujla alleged that the Maharashtra Government plans to increase government representation on the Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Board. Consequently, he warned that such changes could reduce the independence of Sikh institutions.

He recalled that similar efforts had faced strong opposition in 2024. As a result, the proposal was withdrawn at that time. He urged the government not to repeat the same mistake.

Calls for Consultation Before Any Amendment

Aujla said any amendment to the Hazur Sahib Act should involve Sikh organizations, Takht Jathedars, and Panthic representatives. Instead, he opposed unilateral decisions by the government.

He also appealed to BJP leaders and the Central Government not to politicize issues related to Sikh religious sentiments. Finally, he stressed that transparency, dialogue, and mutual respect should guide every decision involving Sikh institutions.

Responding to a question regarding the Gurugram Police investigation into the controversial video case, Aujla said the law should be allowed to take its own course. He added that every citizen should be treated equally before the law, regardless of political position.

Overall, Aujla reaffirmed that he would continue raising his voice on democratic and constitutional platforms to safeguard the independence, dignity, and religious authority of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib and other Sikh institutions.
