Construction Worker Receives Timely Lifeline Through Marriage Grant

Construction Worker Receives Timely Lifeline Support

Hamirpur (Kameshwar Sharma): For many workers, arranging a child’s wedding becomes one of life’s biggest financial challenges. After spending years supporting their families, building homes, and educating their children, many labourers struggle to manage wedding expenses. As a result, some even fall into debt. A similar situation confronted Rakesh Kumar, a labourer from Ladyoh village in the Barara area of Tauni Devi tehsil in Hamirpur district. However, assistance under the Construction Worker Receives Timely Lifeline scheme helped him overcome his financial difficulties and regain peace of mind.

Wedding Expenses Created Financial Pressure

Rakesh Kumar works as a labourer at the SJVN Dhaulasidh Project. Over the years, he worked hard to provide a good education for his son and daughter. In addition, he managed to build a modest home for his family.

Later, he arranged the marriages of both his children with great joy and celebration. However, the wedding of his son Amit required significant expenditure. Consequently, he had to take on debt to meet the expenses.

The financial burden caused concern for both Rakesh Kumar and his wife Reena. Furthermore, they often worried about how they would repay the debt and restore financial stability.

Welfare Board Scheme Offers Timely Support

Fortunately, Rakesh Kumar had registered with the Construction Worker Receives Timely Lifeline scheme. Therefore, he applied for financial assistance under the marriage grant program.

After completing the required process, he received ₹51,000 as marriage assistance from the welfare board. As a result, he was able to repay the debt incurred during his son’s wedding.

Rakesh Kumar expressed gratitude to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for supporting welfare initiatives that benefit workers and their families.

Family Expresses Happiness

Rakesh Kumar said the assistance brought tremendous relief to his family. Moreover, it helped them overcome financial stress and move forward with confidence.

His wife Reena and daughter-in-law Shabnam Kumari also praised the welfare board’s initiative. According to them, the Construction Worker Receives Timely Lifeline proved to be a major support during a difficult period.

They said the financial assistance allowed the family to clear outstanding liabilities and improve their overall financial condition.

Welfare Board Supports Workers Through Multiple Schemes

Board Chairman Naradev Singh Thakur said the welfare board operates 13 welfare schemes designed to support workers at different stages of life.

These schemes provide financial assistance for housing construction, medical treatment, education, childbirth, marriage, pensions, disability support, and emergency situations. Additionally, workers can receive assistance for their own marriage as well.

Furthermore, the board offers financial aid in cases of illness, vocational training, and the death of a registered worker. Consequently, thousands of workers receive support when they need it most.

Crores Distributed for Worker Welfare

Naradev Singh Thakur said the board has significantly expanded its welfare initiatives. During the financial year 2025-26, it provided more than ₹7.47 crore in financial assistance to workers in Hamirpur district alone.

Moreover, the board approved an annual budget of ₹211.47 crore for workers across Himachal Pradesh during the current financial year.
