HPU Gets New Academic Projects Worth Rs 18 Crore

HPU Gets New Academic Projects and Modern CBT Lab

Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu gave a major boost to the HPU Gets New Academic Projects initiative by inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for several key development projects at Himachal Pradesh University. The projects aim to strengthen academic infrastructure, promote digital education, and support the growing needs of students.

During his visit to the university campus in Shimla, the Chief Minister inaugurated a newly constructed multi-faculty building and a modern Computer-Based Test (CBT) laboratory. In addition, he laid the foundation stone for a new academic block that will further expand educational facilities at the university.

Multi-Faculty Building Strengthens Academic Infrastructure

A major highlight among the HPU Gets New Academic Projects was the inauguration of a multi-faculty building constructed at a cost of ₹10.09 crore. The facility includes three academic floors, a computer-cum-CBT laboratory, and parking infrastructure.

Moreover, the building will provide modern learning spaces for students and faculty members. The state government expects the facility to improve academic efficiency and support future educational requirements.

New CBT Lab to Promote Digital Education

As part of the HPU Development Projects, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a state-of-the-art CBT laboratory. This digital facility will play a crucial role in expanding technology-driven education and examination systems.

Furthermore, around 250 candidates will be able to take computer-based examinations simultaneously in the lab. Previously, many students had to travel to other districts to appear for such tests. Therefore, the new facility will save time and improve accessibility for students across Shimla district.

Foundation Stone Laid for New Academic Block

Another important component of the HPU Development Projects is the construction of a new academic block worth ₹8.25 crore.

The proposed five-storey building will include:

  • Additional classrooms
  • Academic facilities
  • Parking infrastructure
  • Space to accommodate increasing student enrollment

Consequently, the university can handle future academic demands more effectively and provide students with an improved learning environment.

Government Support for University Growth

While reviewing the HPU Gets New Academic Projects, Chief Minister Sukhu reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening higher education.

He stated that the government provides annual financial assistance of approximately ₹150 crore to the university. As a result, HPU continues to modernize its infrastructure, accelerate digital transformation, and enhance academic excellence.

Additionally, the Chief Minister shared that he is a former student of the university and acknowledged the positive changes that have taken place over the years.

Focus on Green Hydrogen Research

During the event, the Chief Minister encouraged the university to contribute to research in green hydrogen technology.

He highlighted that Himachal Pradesh is establishing its first Green Hydrogen Project in Nalagarh, Solan district. Therefore, he urged researchers and students to explore innovation opportunities in this emerging sector.

The Chief Minister emphasized that green hydrogen could create significant economic and environmental opportunities for the state in the coming years.

Addressing Economic Challenges

While discussing the state’s future, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu noted that Himachal Pradesh provides ecological services worth nearly ₹90,000 crore to the country.

However, he also expressed concerns about potential revenue losses following the discontinuation of Revenue Deficit Grants under the recommendations of the 16th Finance Commission. Despite these challenges, he asserted that the state would continue moving forward through effective resource management and development-oriented policies.
