Himachal Weather Alert: Orange Warning for Hailstorms and Thunderstorms

Himachal Weather Alert IMD Issues Orange Warning

Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): The Himachal Weather Alert has become a major concern as weather conditions across the state have changed significantly. After bright sunshine in the morning, clouds covered most parts of Himachal Pradesh, bringing the possibility of rain, hailstorms, and strong winds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow Alerts for several districts and warned of severe weather conditions over the next 72 hours.

Orange Alert for Hailstorms and Strong Winds

According to the IMD, districts including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla are likely to experience heavy hailstorms between June 17 and June 19. In addition, strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning activity may affect many areas.

Under the Himachal Weather Alert, residents have been advised to remain indoors during severe weather, avoid unnecessary travel, and take precautions to protect crops, livestock, and vehicles from hail damage.

Significant Rainfall Recorded Across the State

The changing weather has already brought substantial rainfall to many parts of Himachal Pradesh. During the last 24 hours, several regions recorded moderate to heavy rain.

Mandi district’s Kataula received the highest rainfall at 60.1 mm. Meanwhile, Mandi town recorded 37.2 mm of rain. Jogindernagar received 16.0 mm, while Pandoh recorded 15.8 mm. Bhuntar registered 8.6 mm of rainfall, followed by Rampur with 3.3 mm and Kufri with 3.0 mm.

As a result, temperatures have dropped, making weather conditions more pleasant across the hill state.

Rainfall Likely to Continue Till June 22

The IMD has forecast that rainfall activity will continue from June 20 to June 22. Therefore, residents should remain alert to changing weather conditions throughout the week.

Although the southwest monsoon generally reaches Himachal Pradesh around June 22, meteorologists believe that its arrival could be delayed by a few days this year. At present, the monsoon has advanced into several parts of Bihar and continues its gradual movement toward northern India.

Himachal Receives Above-Normal Rainfall

Even before the official arrival of the monsoon, Himachal Pradesh has received encouraging rainfall. According to weather department data, the state recorded nearly 15 percent more rainfall than normal during the past week.

From June 10 to June 17, the normal rainfall for the period was 24.3 mm. However, the state recorded 27.9 mm of rainfall. Consequently, water availability has improved in many areas, while the cool weather has provided relief from summer heat.

Pleasant Weather Boosts Tourism

The ongoing rain and cloudy conditions have created ideal weather for tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh. Popular destinations such as Shimla, Manali, Kufri, and Narkanda are experiencing cool and pleasant temperatures.

Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 25.5 degrees Celsius, while Manali reported 26.4 degrees Celsius. Kufri remained cooler at 18.9 degrees Celsius, and Narkanda recorded 18 degrees Celsius.

As a result, a large number of tourists from across the country are arriving in Himachal Pradesh to enjoy the refreshing weather and scenic beauty.

IMD Advises Caution

Under the ongoing Himachal Weather Alert, the weather department has urged residents and tourists to stay updated with the latest forecasts. Authorities have also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms.

Furthermore, farmers have been encouraged to take protective measures for standing crops, while vehicle owners are advised to park their vehicles in safe locations to minimize potential damage.
