Amritsar Anti-Encroachment Drive Clears Illegal Sunday Market

Amritsar Anti-Encroachment Drive Against Sunday Market

Amritsar (Suraj Kamlesh): The Municipal Corporation launched a special Amritsar anti-encroachment drive against the illegal Sunday market operating between Celebration Mall and SSSS Chowk. The action followed directions from Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill and Additional Commissioner Dr. Jai Inder Singh.

The Estate Department carried out the Amritsar anti-encroachment drive under the leadership of Secretary-cum-Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia. Inspector Aman Sharma and his team supervised the operation throughout the day.

Residents Demand Action Against Illegal Market

Local residents and welfare associations had repeatedly raised concerns about the illegal Sunday market. They reported severe traffic congestion in the area. Moreover, pedestrians faced difficulties because vendors occupied public footpaths.

As a result, commuters experienced long delays during peak hours. Furthermore, blocked roads created safety concerns for schoolchildren, senior citizens, and daily travelers.

Therefore, the Municipal Corporation decided to take immediate action through the Amritsar anti-encroachment drive.

Authorities Remove Illegal Encroachments

During the operation, officials removed unauthorized stalls, temporary structures, and roadside vendors. They also cleared footpaths and public spaces that vendors had occupied without permission.

Additionally, the team inspected several locations where encroachments had disrupted traffic movement. Officials ensured that roads and pedestrian pathways remained accessible after the clearance operation.

The Amritsar anti-encroachment drive aimed to restore public convenience and improve traffic flow. Consequently, residents witnessed smoother movement in the area after the operation.

Vendors Receive Strict Warning

Officials warned vendors against conducting business on public land without approval. They stated that public roads and footpaths exist for community use and not for unauthorized commercial activities.

Moreover, authorities informed vendors that repeated violations would invite strict action. The administration also emphasized that it would not tolerate fresh encroachments on public property.

As a result, many vendors voluntarily removed their temporary setups during the drive.

Municipal Corporation Reaffirms Commitment

Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said the corporation remains committed to keeping roads, footpaths, and public spaces free from encroachments. According to him, the Amritsar anti-encroachment drive will help ensure safer and smoother transportation for residents.

Furthermore, he announced that similar enforcement campaigns would continue across the city. Regular inspections will also help prevent the return of illegal markets.

Citizens Urged to Support Civic Efforts

Additional Commissioner Dr. Jai Inder Singh appealed to residents and traders to cooperate with civic authorities. He urged them to avoid occupying public spaces illegally.

Meanwhile, he encouraged citizens to support efforts that promote cleanliness, order, and better urban management. He noted that public participation remains essential for long-term success.

The Amritsar anti-encroachment drive reflects the Municipal Corporation’s commitment to organized urban development. Moreover, it highlights the administration’s focus on public safety and traffic management. With continued enforcement and community cooperation, authorities aim to create a cleaner and more accessible city for everyone.
