Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): Weather Turns Wild in Himachal as an active western disturbance has triggered a major change in weather conditions across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms and strong winds over the next six days, prompting authorities to issue weather alerts in several districts.
Moreover, the Meteorological Centre in Shimla advised residents to remain vigilant because severe weather conditions may intensify during the coming days.
Orange Alert Issued for Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla
According to the latest forecast, the IMD issued an Orange Alert for Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts from June 11 to June 13 after forecasting thunderstorms, hailstorms and strong winds across the region.
Meanwhile, most districts of the state, excluding tribal districts Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, will remain under a Yellow Alert.
Strong Winds May Reach 50 kmph
The weather department warned that wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kilometres per hour in several regions. As a result, falling trees, damage to power lines, electricity disruptions and traffic problems may occur.
Furthermore, sudden weather changes could affect daily life in many parts of the state.
Rain and Hailstorms Could Impact Agriculture
Authorities have cautioned farmers and orchardists about possible crop damage from hailstorms and heavy rainfall. Therefore, experts have advised growers to take precautionary measures to protect crops and fruit orchards.
In addition, localised thunderstorms and lightning activity may increase the risk of losses in agricultural areas.
Weather Turns Wild in Himachal: Yellow Alert to Continue on June 13 and 14
The IMD has also predicted continued weather activity in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts on June 13 and June 14. Consequently, these districts will remain under a Yellow Alert.
Residents may experience intermittent rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms during this period.
Temperatures Likely to Fall Across Himachal
The changing weather pattern is expected to provide relief from the recent spell of intense heat. According to the department, maximum temperatures may drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius across many areas.
Furthermore, increased cloud cover and rainfall are likely to make weather conditions more pleasant.
IMD Urges People to Stay Alert
Meteorologist Sandeep Kumar Sharma urged residents to monitor official weather bulletins regularly and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
Additionally, the department advised farmers, orchardists and people travelling in hilly regions to follow all weather warnings and safety guidelines.
