Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the Sanjauli Multipurpose Sports Stadium in Shimla. The government built the stadium at a cost of ₹3.18 crore. The project aims to strengthen sports infrastructure and encourage young athletes across the state.
The new stadium offers an open playground, an open hall, a kitchen, a community hall, and several other facilities. As a result, local players will get better opportunities to train and compete.
Chitta Awareness Volleyball Tournament Begins
During the event, CM Sukhu launched Himachal Pradesh’s first Chitta Awareness Volleyball Tournament under the International Summer Festival Shimla. He also unveiled the tournament trophy and announced a cash prize of ₹1 lakh for the winning team.
Furthermore, 13 teams from different districts participated in the competition. The Chief Minister reviewed the march-past and administered an anti-drug pledge to all players. Consequently, the event combined sports promotion with awareness against drug abuse.
Major Development Announcements for Sanjauli
The Chief Minister announced ₹1 crore for the development and improvement of the Sanjauli ground. In addition, he announced a Primary Health Centre for the area.
Moreover, he granted district-level status to the Sanjauli Holi Fair. Therefore, local residents can expect improved infrastructure and greater support for community events.
Government Pushes for Khelo India Events
CM Sukhu said the state government is actively working to host Khelo India competitions in Himachal Pradesh. Accordingly, the government has already issued directions to the concerned departments.
He also highlighted the government’s efforts to support athletes. For instance, the state has increased prize money for winners of international competitions. Likewise, the government will soon introduce a new policy to reward winners at the national level.
New Sports Infrastructure in the Pipeline
The Chief Minister announced that a new stadium is coming up at Ghatasani near Shimla. The government is constructing the facility at a cost of ₹10 crore.
Meanwhile, the state continues to invest in sports infrastructure across various districts. These projects aim to create better training facilities and encourage youth participation in sports.
Athletes Receive Better Financial Support
Recalling his school days, CM Sukhu said he actively participated in sports competitions. Therefore, he understands the challenges athletes face during training and competition.
To support sportspersons, the government increased daily diet allowances. Athletes competing within Himachal Pradesh now receive ₹400 per day. Similarly, players participating outside the state receive ₹500 per day.
Additionally, the government provides air travel facilities for athletes traveling more than 200 kilometers. As a result, players can focus more on performance and less on travel-related challenges.
MLA Harish Janartha Welcomes the Initiative
Harish Janartha said the Sanjauli ground ranks among the oldest sports grounds in the region. He added that residents had demanded a modern sports facility for many years.
Furthermore, he praised the government’s efforts to encourage sports and keep youth away from drugs. He also noted that authorities are upgrading several other sports grounds in Shimla.

Several senior officials attended the programme. These included Surender Chauhan, Anupam Kashyap, Gaurav Singh, and Shivam Pratap Singh.
