Amritsar (Rajesh Sandhu): The War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign continues to gain strong momentum across Punjab. Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson, MLA and former minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal stated that the campaign has now turned into a widespread public movement.
Moreover, he said the initiative aims to build a “Rangla Punjab” by completely eliminating drug abuse. In addition, he highlighted that citizens, social workers, and rural defence committees are actively supporting the War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign.
Massive Crackdown on Drug Networks
According to Dhaliwal, authorities have achieved significant success under the War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign. So far, they have arrested hundreds of drug traffickers across the state.
Furthermore, enforcement agencies have recovered more than 2700 kg of heroin, ice drugs, and other synthetic narcotics. Along with this, officials have seized illegal assets and drug money worth crores of rupees.
In several cases, authorities also demolished properties built from drug proceeds. As a result, the War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign has created strong pressure on criminal networks.
Public Participation Strengthens the Drive
Meanwhile, authorities organized a major awareness and oath-taking ceremony in Ajnala. SDM Charumita, DSP Gurdeep Singh, and BDPO Sitara Singh Virk conducted the event.
Additionally, representatives from 183 villages of the Ajnala constituency participated in large numbers. Ward defence committee members from both rural and urban areas also attended the program.
Dhaliwal emphasized that public involvement is essential for the success of the War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign. Therefore, he urged citizens to act as vigilant observers in their local areas.
Government Commitment to Continue the Campaign
Moreover, Dhaliwal clearly stated that the War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign will continue until Punjab becomes completely drug-free. He assured that the government will not slow down its efforts.
In addition, he called upon social organizations and defence committees to report drug-related activities without hesitation. He also encouraged them to support rehabilitation programs for drug addicts.
As a result, the campaign is expected to become even stronger in the coming months.
Concerns Over Border Security
On the other hand, Dhaliwal raised concerns regarding cross-border drug trafficking. He accused the central government of not taking sufficient action to strengthen border security.
Furthermore, he claimed that repeated proposals to secure the 533 km India-Pakistan border have not been implemented so far. Consequently, drug smuggling through drones continues to pose a serious challenge.
Thus, he argued that the War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign requires stronger national-level coordination.
Anti-Drone Technology Deployment
In response, the Punjab government has installed anti-drone systems at three sensitive border locations. Notably, the project involved an investment of ₹52 crore.
These systems are designed to detect and stop drone-based drug delivery attempts. Therefore, they significantly strengthen the technical backbone of the War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign.
Oath for Drug-Free Punjab
At the conclusion of the program, participants took a collective oath. They pledged to support the administration by sharing accurate information about drug traffickers.
Moreover, they committed to helping drug addicts reach government rehabilitation centres. Consequently, officials believe that community cooperation will further accelerate the War Against Drugs Punjab Campaign.
