Muktsar Sahib: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has taken suo motu notice of the Muktsar Dalit Youth Assault Case. The action follows media reports of alleged inhuman treatment of two Dalit youths in Jhorar village.

Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said the matter came to the commission’s attention through newspaper reports. Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the commission immediately initiated action and took suo motu cognizance of the case.

Commission Seeks Detailed Police Report

The commission has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sri Muktsar Sahib, to submit a detailed report through the SP Headquarters by June 9, 2026.

After receiving the report, the commission will review the findings before deciding on further action.

Allegations of Inhuman Treatment

According to the information received, a farmer’s family in Jhorar village allegedly subjected two Dalit youths to brutal treatment on suspicion of mobile phone theft.

According to the allegations, the accused stripped the two youths, bound them with ropes, dragged them through fields, tied them to a tree, and brutally assaulted them.

In addition, reports suggest that the accused allegedly paraded the victims through the village, sparking widespread outrage among local residents.
