Khet Bachao Abhiyan Launched in Mandi to Promote Sustainable Farming

Khet Bachao Abhiyan Begins in Mandi for Soil Health

Mandi (Kameshwar Sharma): The Khet Bachao Abhiyan has officially started in Mandi district under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) project. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sundernagar launched the campaign as part of a statewide initiative that promotes sustainable and scientific farming practices.

According to Project Director (ATMA) Rakesh Patial, authorities are conducting the Khet Bachao Abhiyan across Himachal Pradesh from June 1 to June 30, 2026, following guidelines issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Campaign Promotes Soil Health and Natural Farming

The Khet Bachao Abhiyan mainly focuses on raising awareness about soil health conservation, balanced fertilizer use, and natural farming methods. Therefore, agricultural experts have started reaching out directly to farmers across the district.

Recently, experts organized awareness sessions in Behal and Pasta gram panchayats of Balh subdivision and Randhara village in Sadar subdivision. During these sessions, they educated farmers about maintaining soil fertility and improving crop productivity through sustainable farming techniques.

Moreover, experts explained the benefits of soil testing-based nutrient management, organic farming, green manure, and balanced fertilizer application. As a result, farmers gained valuable insights into improving agricultural productivity while protecting soil quality.

Awareness Programs Reach Villages

Under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, officials will conduct awareness programs in villages throughout the district. In addition, they will organize farmer meetings, training camps, field demonstrations, and educational workshops.

Furthermore, these activities will help farmers understand modern agricultural practices and adopt cost-effective farming methods. Consequently, farmers can reduce production costs while improving crop yields and conserving natural resources.

Village Committees to Support Sustainable Farming

Officials have formed village-level committees to strengthen the campaign. These committees will hold regular meetings and encourage farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.

Moreover, they will guide farmers on resource conservation and long-term soil productivity. Therefore, the campaign is expected to create lasting benefits for the farming community and the agricultural sector.

Departments Join Hands for Successful Implementation

The Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and the ATMA Project are working together to implement the Khet Bachao Abhiyan effectively.

Additionally, Krishi Vigyan Kendras will coordinate activities among participating institutions and provide technical support whenever needed. As a result, authorities expect smooth implementation of the campaign across the district.

Digital Agriculture Services Included

Apart from awareness activities, officials will prioritize farmer registration under the HP-AgriStack initiative. They will also verify digital crop surveys and facilitate access to various government agricultural schemes.

Consequently, the campaign combines traditional farming awareness with modern digital agriculture services. Furthermore, these efforts will help farmers access benefits more efficiently.

Farmers Encouraged to Participate

Rakesh Patial urged farmers to actively participate in the Khet Bachao Abhiyan and adopt scientific as well as natural farming techniques. He emphasized that farmers must maintain soil fertility to ensure long-term agricultural sustainability and higher incomes.

Moreover, he encouraged them to attend training programs and make full use of expert guidance available during the campaign. Therefore, farmers can improve productivity while protecting natural resources for future generations.
