Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): The Himachal Pradesh government has launched a ₹2,688 Crore Disaster-Proofing Plan Launched initiative to strengthen the state’s ability to withstand natural disasters and climate-related challenges. Through the ambitious HP-READY (Himachal Pradesh Resilient Action for Development and Disaster Recovery) project, the government aims to improve disaster preparedness, infrastructure resilience, and recovery mechanisms across the state.
The project will remain in operation from January 2026 to November 2030. Officials designed the initiative to reduce disaster risks, improve public safety, and protect critical infrastructure from future calamities.
Himachal Faces Rising Disaster Risks
Himachal Pradesh remains one of India’s most disaster-prone hill states. Climate change and global warming have increased the frequency of extreme weather events in recent years.
According to official data, the state recorded more than 66 cloudbursts, 234 landslides, and 121 flash floods during the last three years. These disasters caused significant damage to public infrastructure, private property, and local livelihoods.
