Chandigarh: Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has taken a major step to improve electricity supply in the city. Under the project CPDL Adds New Transformer, the company installed a 20 MVA, 66/11 kV power transformer at the Industrial Area Phase-1 grid sub-station. The move comes at a time when Chandigarh is facing intense summer heat and rising electricity demand. CPDL aims to reduce load pressure and ensure a stable and reliable power supply across key areas.
New Transformer Improves Power Reliability
The newly commissioned transformer will support the 66/11 kV grid sub-station located in Industrial Area Phase-1. CPDL installed a 20 MVA unit to strengthen the local power network.
This upgrade will help maintain smooth electricity flow during peak load hours. It will also reduce the chances of breakdowns and power cuts.
Officials say the system will now handle higher demand more efficiently.

The Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) project will benefit several major areas. These include:

- Bahlana
- Hallo Majra
- Daria
- Raipur Khurd
- Makhan Majra
Residents and industries in these areas will now receive more stable and reliable electricity supply.
Support During Peak Demand
CPDL stated that the new transformer will reduce load on the existing network. It will also help during peak summer demand when electricity usage rises sharply. The system will provide backup support during emergencies. It will also help avoid long power interruptions in case of technical faults.
Officials said the upgrade ensures better grid stability and faster response during breakdowns.
Fourth Major Transformer Installation by CPDL
This is the fourth 20 MVA transformer installed by CPDL Adds New Transformer after taking over the city’s power distribution system.
Earlier installations were completed at:
- Industrial Area Phase-2
- IT Park
- Sector 52 GSS
These upgrades show CPDL’s continued focus on improving Chandigarh’s power infrastructure.
Industry Association Also Present
Members of the Industry Association attended the commissioning event. They appreciated the effort to improve electricity supply in industrial and residential areas.
Officials believe such upgrades will support both industrial growth and public convenience in Chandigarh.
