Hamirpur’s Pulkit Thakur Creates History, Wins Gold in Under-14 Kurash at National School Games

Hamirpur – Pulkit Thakur, a Class 6 student from Rajkiya Uchcha Pathshala Majhog Sultani, brought glory to Hamirpur district and Himachal Pradesh by winning the gold medal in the 25 kg weight category of Under-14 Kurash at the National School Games held in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh from December 16-20. This historic achievement marked the first time a player from Hamirpur or the state clinched gold in Kurash at the national level.

The education department celebrated Pulkit’s success with honors at the Deputy Director’s office, where sweets were distributed amid congratulations from the school headmaster, PTI, parents, and teachers. Pulkit credited his victory to the guidance of his headmaster, PTI, and all teachers, emphasizing consistent practice under their support.

ADPO Ashwani Kumar called it a milestone in the district’s sports history, praising Deputy Director Kamal Kishore Bharti’s efforts in training. Deputy Director Bharti noted Himachal secured 15 medals overall, but Pulkit’s gold broke a 30-year drought for Under-14 gold in any sport. Pulkit also thanked coaches Divya Tiwari Sharma and Sanjeev Singh from the National Excellence Centre Hamirpur for their rigorous training.
