Baba Bakala Farmers Camp Promotes Sustainable Farming

Baba Bakala Farmers Camp Promotes Sustainable Farming & DSR

Amritsar (Suraj Kamlesh): The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department organized a block-level Baba Bakala Farmers Camp in Amritsar district. The department focused the program on sustainable agriculture, natural farming, and modern crop management. Moreover, officials aimed to guide farmers toward eco-friendly and cost-effective farming methods.

Focus on Sustainable Agriculture Techniques

Experts guided farmers on sustainable farming practices during the camp. In addition, they explained how natural farming improves soil health and reduces chemical use. Furthermore, they encouraged farmers to adopt long-term environmentally safe techniques for better productivity.

Direct Sowing of Paddy (DSR) for Water Saving

Officials promoted Direct Sowing of Rice (DSR) as a key alternative to traditional transplanting. They highlighted that DSR saves water and reduces labour costs. As a result, farmers can manage resources more efficiently. Moreover, this method helps protect groundwater levels in Punjab.

Crop Diversification and Soil Health Improvement

Experts encouraged farmers to diversify crops and grow maize during the Kharif season. In addition, they promoted green manure (dhaincha) to improve soil fertility. Furthermore, they explained that balanced fertilizer use improves long-term soil productivity and reduces chemical dependency.

Strong Message Against Stubble Burning

Officials strongly advised farmers not to burn crop residue. Instead, they suggested incorporating stubble into the soil. Consequently, farmers can improve soil nutrients and reduce pollution. Moreover, experts explained that stubble burning harms air quality and human health significantly.

Modern Tools, Soil Testing & Irrigation Awareness

Experts demonstrated soil testing methods and explained nutrient management based on soil reports. Additionally, they introduced sensor-based irrigation tools such as tensiometers. These tools help farmers save water and improve irrigation efficiency. Furthermore, a health awareness session highlighted the dangers of air pollution caused by stubble burning.

Awareness Through Nukkad Natak

A street play team performed a nukkad natak to spread awareness among farmers. Through this performance, they promoted reduced pesticide use, water conservation, and sustainable farming practices. As a result, farmers engaged more actively with modern agricultural messages.
