Tarun Chugh Welcomes SIR Voter List Revision in India

Chandigarh: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh Welcomes SIR Voter List the Election Commission’s decision to carry out a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists across 16 states and three Union Territories, including Punjab.

Moreover, he described the move as a constitutional, transparent, and democratic process aimed at strengthening the credibility of elections in India.

SIR Exercise Aims to Clean Voter Lists

Chugh said that the main objective of the SIR process is to ensure that authorities include every genuine voter in the electoral roll. At the same time, it aims to remove fake, duplicate, deceased, and illegal entries.

Furthermore, he stated that a clean voter list is the foundation of a strong democracy. As a result, fair elections depend directly on accurate voter verification.

Congress and AAP Face Criticism

Tarun Chugh strongly criticized the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party for opposing the SIR exercise. In addition, he called their opposition misleading and politically motivated.

He said that the voter list revision has taken place 13 times since Independence, all during Congress-led governments.

Consequently, he questioned why the same process is now being opposed in Punjab.

Questions Raised Over Opposition Stand

Chugh clarified that the Bharatiya Janata Party supports the process and will actively participate in it.

Furthermore, he said BJP workers will cooperate at every polling station to ensure a clean and accurate voter list.
