Amritsar (Suraj Kamlesh): The Amritsar Development Authority (ADA) launched a major demolition drive against unauthorized colonies developed near Ram Tirath Road in Amritsar district. The ADA Demolishes Illegal Colonies operation took place under the directions issued by Punjab Government authorities and senior ADA officials.
Officials demolished illegal colony developments at village Wadala Bhittewad, including New Maple City, an unauthorized colony opposite Ekam Garden, and RT Enclave (Extension).
ADA Takes Strict Action Under PAPRA Act
District Town Planner Amarinderjit Singh stated that authorities carried out the demolition under the PAPRA Act 1995 to control unauthorized urban development.
According to officials, the administration had earlier issued notices to the colony developers and ordered them to stop construction activities. However, developers allegedly ignored the notices and continued development work at the sites.
As a result, officials launched the ADA Demolishes Illegal Colonies action on May 14, 2026.
Illegal Development Continued Despite Notices
Authorities revealed that colony owners violated government regulations even after receiving official warnings.
Officials stated that developers neither submitted proper clarification nor stopped illegal construction activities.
Consequently, ADA officials demolished the newly developed structures under the orders of senior authorities.
The administration confirmed that officials had earlier conducted demolition drives against New Maple City on September 3, 2024, and RT Enclave (Extension) on April 4, 2025.
Despite earlier action, developers reportedly resumed illegal development work at the same locations.
Strict Penalties for Illegal Colonizers
ADA officials warned that unauthorized colony developers could face severe legal action under the amended PAPRA Act 2024.
Authorities stated that violators may face imprisonment ranging from five to ten years along with fines between ₹25 lakh and ₹5 crore.
Furthermore, officials have started the process of informing the police department against landowners and colony developers involved in the illegal projects.
The ADA Demolishes Illegal Colonies campaign also aims to discourage future unauthorized construction activities across the district.
Public Asked to Verify Colony Approvals
ADA’s regulatory wing appealed to the public not to purchase plots in unauthorized colonies without verifying official approvals from the PUDA department.
Officials advised buyers to carefully check approval documents and review the list of unauthorized colonies available on the Amritsar Development Authority website before making any property investment.
Authorities stated that this step would help citizens avoid financial losses and legal complications.
Government Warns Against Illegal Construction
Officials also urged residents and developers to obtain all required approvals from the PUDA department before starting any construction activity anywhere in the district.
The administration emphasized that strict monitoring and enforcement action against illegal colonies will continue in the coming months.
