Palampur (Kameshwar Sharma): The issue of Article 370 Removal remained the main focus during the 19th National Convention of the Akhil Bharatiya Valmiki Mahasabha held in Palampur.
Governor Kavinder Gupta said the removal of Article 370 became a historic milestone for the long-suffering Valmiki community in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the constitutional change ensured justice, equal rights, and dignity for thousands of families who had faced discrimination for decades.
The Governor addressed the opening session of the two-day convention at CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University.
Governor Highlights Decades of Discrimination
Speaking at the event, Governor Kavinder Gupta said the special provisions under Article 370 denied basic rights and opportunities to the Valmiki community for nearly 70 years.
He said thousands of Valmiki families were brought to Jammu many decades ago. Despite serving society with honesty and dedication, they remained deprived of constitutional rights, government opportunities, and social equality.
The Governor stated that the Article 370 Removal changed the situation completely. He said members of the Valmiki community in Jammu and Kashmir now enjoy equal rights like other Indian citizens.
Article 370 Removal: Equal Rights and Better Opportunities
Governor Kavinder Gupta said the removal of Article 370 opened new opportunities for the Valmiki community. Young people from the community can now access better education, government jobs, welfare schemes, and constitutional protection.
He called the move the beginning of a new era of empowerment, equality, and social justice.
The Governor also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking what he described as a bold and historic decision. According to him, the decision ensured justice not only for the Valmiki community but also for the Gorkha community and other deprived groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
Governor Stresses Social Harmony and Values
During his address, the Governor stressed the importance of moral values, national unity, and social harmony. He said the teachings of Maharishi Valmiki remain relevant even today.
He encouraged young people to stay connected with cultural values and work for the upliftment of weaker sections of society.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of the “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” vision under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the country is witnessing continuous improvements in education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
Valmiki Community Praised for Social Contribution
Governor Kavinder Gupta appreciated the contribution of the Valmiki community in making the Swachh Bharat Mission a mass movement across the country.
He said the active participation of representatives from different states in the convention reflected the community’s commitment to social upliftment and national unity.
The Governor urged youth to carry forward the legacy of Maharishi Valmiki by promoting education, service, truth, and moral values.
Earlier, organizers of the Akhil Bharatiya Valmiki Mahasabha welcomed the Governor warmly. Representatives from various states also honored him during the event.
