Amritsar (Dawarka Nath Rana): The Amritsar Verka police encounter shooting case has come to light after a violent clash between two groups near Verka railway crossing in Amritsar. The incident took place on May 5, 2026, and led to a major police operation, arrests, and recovery of weapons.
According to police reports, the situation escalated when two groups engaged in a violent confrontation near the Verka bus stand area. The dispute turned dangerous when gunfire broke out, creating panic in the locality.
How the Incident Started
Police received information from MHC Angrez Singh about suspicious activity and a violent clash near Verka railway crossing. Soon after, a police team rushed to the spot.
At the scene, complainants informed the police that they were out for a walk when two vehicles — one black and one white — stopped near them. Around 8 to 9 individuals got out of the vehicles. Among them, some were armed with pistols and sharp weapons like datars.
One accused, identified as Nav, allegedly fired in the air with the intent to kill. He then fired two more shots at the complainant. Fortunately, the victim escaped safely and raised an alarm. After this, all accused fled the scene.
Verka Police Encounter: Police Action and Encounter
After the initial incident, police teams under Inspector Baljinder Singh, SHO B-Division Amritsar, launched a search operation.
During the investigation, police reached the house of accused Nav. At that time, 5–6 accused were seen approaching on foot. When they noticed the police, they opened fire again with the intent to kill.
The situation quickly escalated into a police encounter in the Amritsar Verka shooting case.
Police responded immediately and chased the accused. Two of them tried to escape in a parked car near the Verka bus stand. One accused, Krishna Sonik, fired at the police team again.

To control the situation, police first fired warning shots in the air. However, the accused continued firing. In self-defense, police fired two targeted shots, injuring accused Krishna Sonik in both legs.
During the chaos, one weapon fell from his hand. Another accused, Ranjit Singh alias Bobby, picked it up and escaped while firing at police.
Police managed to arrest Krishna Sonik on the spot. He was immediately taken to Civil Hospital Amritsar for treatment.
Arrests and Recovery
Later, police arrested two more accused — Ranjit Singh alias Bobby and Gautam Mehra. During investigation, police recovered one .32 bore pistol from Ranjit Singh.
