Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): Shimla has witnessed a major step toward sustainable development. The city has officially launched its electric waste fleet under a green mobility initiative. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off 10 electric waste vehicles from the state secretariat.

First Phase of Electric Waste System in Shimla
The newly launched Shimla electric waste fleet includes 10 advanced vehicles. Each vehicle has a waste collection capacity of one tonne. Additionally, they have been purchased at a cost of ₹13.98 lakh per unit.
Before the official rollout, these vehicles were tested from 10 to 14 November 2025. During testing, they performed efficiently across Shimla’s hilly terrain and varying weather conditions. As a result, they were cleared for full-scale operations.
Electric Waste Fleet: Strong Charging Network for Smooth Operations
To support the fleet, a dedicated charging infrastructure has been installed. It has been set up within the municipal parking facility. Therefore, vehicle charging and deployment will be easy and well-managed.
Once fully charged, each electric vehicle can run between 130 and 150 kilometers. This range is sufficient for daily waste collection routes across the city.
Furthermore, the shift to electric vehicles is expected to reduce fuel dependency significantly.
