Women Reservation Bill 2023 Sparks BJP-Congress Clash

Women Reservation Bill 2023 BJP vs Congress Clash India

Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): The Women Reservation Bill 2023 controversy has once again become a major political flashpoint in India, triggering a sharp exchange between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In Himachal Pradesh, the Women Congress has strongly criticized the central government for delaying the implementation of the long-awaited 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

AICC Secretary and Himachal Women Congress in-charge Surbhi Verma launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of misleading women in the name of empowerment while failing to take concrete action. According to her, the Women Reservation Bill 2023 controversy reflects the gap between political promises and ground reality.

Congress Challenges BJP Over Delay in Implementation of Women Reservation Bill

Surbhi Verma stated that the Congress has never opposed the idea of providing 33 percent reservation to women in legislative bodies. However, she strongly questioned the BJP government’s intent, saying that if the commitment is genuine, the reservation should be implemented immediately across all 543 Lok Sabha seats.

The Women Reservation Bill 2023 controversy has intensified further as Congress leaders allege that the BJP government has deliberately linked the implementation of the bill with the census and delimitation process, causing unnecessary delays. According to them, this delay is a direct injustice to women’s political rights.

Allegations of Political Delay and “Denial of Rights” of Women Reservation Bill

Calling the delay a serious issue, Surbhi Verma said that postponing the implementation of the bill is equivalent to denying women their rightful share in political representation. She described the situation as a “deprivation of rights,” adding fuel to the ongoing Women Reservation Bill 2023 controversy.

She emphasized that true women empowerment cannot be achieved through slogans alone but requires strong and immediate policy decisions. The Congress party, she added, is now preparing a structured movement to raise awareness about the issue across rural areas.

Grassroots Movement Planned by Women Congress

As part of its strategy, the Women Congress has decided to take the Women Reservation Bill 2023 controversy to the grassroots level. Party workers have been instructed to visit villages and educate women about their political rights and the importance of 33 percent reservation.

Surbhi Verma said the issue will soon transform into a mass movement if the government continues to delay action. The party believes that awareness at the grassroots level will strengthen the demand for immediate implementation of women’s reservation in Parliament.

Protest Inside Party Office and Nationwide Demand

In a strong demonstration of protest, Women Congress members staged a sit-in within their party office, raising slogans against the central government. The protest highlighted the growing frustration over the Women Reservation Bill 2023 controversy and the lack of progress on women’s representation in politics.

The organization reiterated its demand for immediate implementation of 33 percent reservation in all 543 Lok Sabha constituencies. Leaders said that such a step is essential to ensure real political empowerment of women in India.

Warning of Larger Agitation in Himachal Pradesh

Surbhi Verma further announced that once the election code of conduct for Panchayat and urban body elections ends, Women Congress will organize a major protest in Shimla. She warned that if the government continues to delay the implementation of the bill, the movement will be expanded across the state.

The ongoing Women Reservation Bill 2023 controversy is expected to gain further momentum as both political parties continue to exchange accusations over its delay.
