Shimla Police Arrest Drug Smuggler Under PIT-NDPS Act

Shimla Police Arrest Repeat Drug Offender Under NDPS

Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): Taking strict action against habitual drug traffickers, Shimla Police has intensified enforcement of provisions under the PIT-NDPS Act to curb repeated offenses and keep offenders away from society and public spaces.

In this connection, preventive detention action against accused Chetan Chauhan, son of Mohar Singh and a resident of Badawali village in Rampur, was approved by the Himachal Pradesh government. Following this, formal detention orders were issued under the PIT-NDPS Act.

Acting on these orders, a police team arrested the accused on April 25, 2026, from a guest house located in the motor market area of Manimajra. He had been absconding from the Rampur area for a considerable period.

After completing the necessary legal procedures, the accused was lodged in Kaithu Jail in Shimla.

According to police records, the accused has a criminal history and was previously involved in drug trafficking cases. Two cases related to “chitta” smuggling were registered against him under the NDPS Act at Rampur police station in 2020 and 2023.

Considering his repeated involvement in criminal activities, preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act was carried out to prevent further offenses.

Notably, Shimla Police has so far taken similar detention action against 35 accused individuals, sending them to jail for three months each. The district police have reiterated that strict and continuous action against drug trafficking will continue in the future.
