26-Year-Old Gets New Life After Successful Kidney Transplant in Amritsar

Amritsar: A 26-year-old male patient suffering from IgA Nephropathy has been given a new lease on life following a successful kidney transplant at Livasa Hospital.

Speaking at a press conference, Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician Dr. Radhika Garg explained that IgA Nephropathy is a progressive kidney disorder characterized by symptoms such as blood in urine and gradual decline in kidney function.

The patient, a student, was diagnosed in April 2024 after a kidney biopsy confirmed the condition. Over time, his health deteriorated significantly, with rising creatinine levels and persistent blood in urine, eventually leading to end-stage kidney disease. He had been on dialysis since January 2026.

Dr. Garg noted that due to the progressive nature of the disease and the limited long-term effectiveness of dialysis, a kidney transplant became essential to restore both survival and quality of life.

Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeon Dr. Paras Ram Saini stated that the transplant surgery was successfully performed, with the patient’s father serving as the donor.

He emphasized that timely medical intervention not only saved the patient’s life but also freed him from lifelong dependence on dialysis, allowing him to return to a normal lifestyle.

CEO of the hospital, Anurag Yadav, highlighted that Livasa Hospital is the only licensed institution in the district offering kidney transplant services, marking a significant step toward improving access to advanced healthcare in the region.
