100-Day TB-Free India Campaign Launched in Amritsar on World TB Day

Amritsar Launches 100-Day TB-Free India Campaign

On the occasion of World TB Day, the Health Department under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Amritsar launched a 100-day TB-Free India campaign across the district to strengthen early detection and treatment of tuberculosis patients.

Providing details, Civil Surgeon Dr Satinder Singh Bajwa said that the primary objective of the campaign is to identify tuberculosis patients at an early stage and ensure timely medical treatment. Health department teams will conduct door-to-door screening to detect suspected TB cases so that no patient remains untreated.

He further stated that patients who have not been visiting hospitals will be traced and provided free treatment at government healthcare facilities. Community Health Officers (CHOs) will play a key role in implementing the campaign during the 100-day drive.

District TB Officer Dr Vinay Tandon explained that tuberculosis can be cured completely if patients complete the full 194-day medication course as prescribed. As part of the campaign, nearly 30 percent of the rural population will also undergo screening.

Officials added that all TB patients receive medicines free of cost, and continuous monitoring is carried out by the Health Department to prevent further spread of the disease.

The Health Department appealed to residents that anyone experiencing symptoms such as prolonged cough, fever, or unexplained weight loss should immediately visit the nearest government health centre for testing and treatment.
