₹4 Lakh Crore Released Under PM Kisan Scheme

An important update has emerged for farmers across the country. The Modi government has made a significant announcement regarding the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.

Union Minister of State for Agriculture Ram Nath Thakur informed the Lok Sabha that more than ₹4 lakh crore has been disbursed to farmers under the scheme so far. The amount has been distributed in 21 installments to strengthen the financial condition of farmers nationwide. According to official data, crores of farmers have benefited from the scheme.

Launched in February 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PM-KISAN scheme was introduced to meet the financial needs of farmers, especially for purchasing seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs. As a Central Sector Scheme, the entire financial burden is borne by the Government of India. The initiative has provided relief to farmers amid rising agricultural costs.

Under the scheme, every eligible farmer receives ₹6,000 annually. Instead of a lump sum payment, the amount is transferred in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each every four months. This structured payment system ensures that farmers receive financial support throughout the year, particularly during sowing seasons when funds are most needed.

To eliminate middlemen and ensure transparency, the government has developed a robust digital infrastructure for the scheme. All payments are made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), with funds directly credited to farmers’ bank accounts linked with their Aadhaar numbers. Aadhaar seeding has helped eliminate fake beneficiaries and ensured that only genuine farmers receive the benefits.

Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, the minister emphasized that farmer welfare remains a top priority for the government. He stated that the administration is not only providing financial assistance but also ensuring timely transfers so that farmers receive funds during critical agricultural periods.

Small and marginal farmers across the country are among the biggest beneficiaries of the scheme. Additionally, the initiative has increased awareness of digital banking in rural areas, promoting financial inclusion and transparency in government support programs.
